LESSON 5 - MOVING AROUND
It's time to start moving the heli around while hovering. Now that you've mastered putting the heli at one spot, move it around to various places. Try the following diagram.
- Start the hovering position from position 1. About eye level. Tail in hover.
- Use left cyclic and move it to position 2.
- Use back cyclic and fly backward slowly to position 3
- Move forward to position 4
- Use left cyclic to position 5 and 6
- Reverse backward to position 7
- Forward to 8 and back to 1
For this exercise, keep yourself facing forward.Turn only your head and not your body when the heli moves around.
Keep the heli facing in one direction, so that at position 3 and 7, it is actually sideways hovering.
As usual, practice till you can move it from place to place accurately.
After mastering the above movements in tail in orientation, try starting at position 1 with the heli sideways facing right. As you move from position 1 to 2 to 3, you will transit from slow forward flight back to tail in hovering at point 3. Going back to position 5, then to postion 6, your heli will be in a nose in orientation. At position 7, it will be a nose in hover.
Remember that from postion 5 to 7, it will be difficult and it's easy to loose focus and orientation. Have your escape plan ready if something don't go right, eg, climb, and swing the tail around to a tail in orientation, then move your heli back to position 1 again.
The last is to repeat the above but using nose in orientation starting from position 1.
If you can do all that, you are ready for forward flight and approaches.
